"We still need a few more people, especially at The Preserve!" That line comes from the Adopt-A-Hole notice on SaddleBrooke TWO's golf page. Most residents would read it as a routine volunteer request. This October it carries more weight, because for most of the month The Preserve is scheduled to be the only one of SaddleBrooke TWO's two courses that's open.
The dates are on the HOA's golf update, which is current as of September 21, 2026. The Preserve has been closed for overseeding and is scheduled to reopen Monday, October 5. MountainView closes for its own overseed that same day and stays closed through October 25. The update also lists The Links as closed during overseeding but gives no dates for it. That leaves about three weeks with The Preserve as the only one of the two courses scheduled to be open. The Preserve's restaurant and patio events are bunched into the same three weeks.
Why both courses close at all
Every fall, desert courses go through the same process. The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension says bermudagrass in the lower desert goes dormant and loses its color in winter. Overseeding with a cool-season grass, most often perennial ryegrass, keeps the turf green from October through May. Extension guidance also calls for watering three to four times a day for the first seven to ten days after seeding.
The HOA staggers the two courses so they aren't closed at the same time. The agronomic notes on the golf page show the timing. When The Preserve's overseed started, MountainView was getting storm cleanup, plant trimming in front of the tees, and a growth regulator "in preparation for overseed in 3 weeks." One course comes back just as the other closes. If the October 5 date holds, The Preserve goes from closed to the only one of the two courses open in a single day.
What changes for walkers and dog owners
Residents who don't golf notice the closures too. On a normal schedule, morning walking hours on the courses end at 7:00 a.m. and evening walking hours start at 6:00 p.m. Those hours also cover driving dogs along the cart paths, and golfers have the right of way. The golf update says there are no walking hours while a course is closed for overseeding.
That makes the evening walking window at MountainView unavailable through October 25. The Preserve's paths are the course scheduled to reopen first. With MountainView closed, the right-of-way rule will come up more often in the early-morning and evening hours.
Over at MountainView, the HOA offers dog owners another option. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome every Monday on the MVBG East Patio during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drink service. The menu includes plain grilled chicken breasts and beef patties for dogs, and there's a new dog-relief area. The Preserve's restaurant is closed on Mondays, so that patio is the dog-friendly meal option in the community.
One course and the existing booking rules
The HOA hasn't announced special booking rules for the three weeks. The regular ones already decide who gets a tee time when there's only one course.
- Annual, Seasonal, and Afternoon Unlimited Passholders can request lottery times up to 30 days ahead. A request goes through only if the group has at least as many Annual passholders as non-passholders, and that includes guests.
- Everyone else can book up to 10 days ahead, starting at 7:00 a.m.
- Nine-hole rounds before 2:00 p.m. can be booked 72 hours ahead. The HOA describes this as a change made this year with the ForeTees booking system.
The 30-day window has a timing effect this month. A passholder who requested times in late September for dates through October 25 could only have requested Preserve times, because MountainView is scheduled to be closed on those dates.
The practice facilities have a fixed schedule as well. Clean picks on Sundays and Thursdays close the practice tees at 4:00 p.m. On Monday and Friday mornings, the facilities stay closed until mowing and sanding are finished. Golf attire is required on both courses and in the practice areas. The golf shop puts it this way: "if you see a PGA TOUR or LPGA TOUR player wearing it, you can wear it."
The course that needs adopters most
This is where the Adopt-A-Hole request comes in. The program is nearly 20 years old. The Golf Committee, with Diane Marchand, Marcy Tixier, and Debbie McMullin, has partnered with the Troon Golf Operations Team to relaunch it. Adopters handle small jobs like picking up trash, fixing a broken tee, filling a divot, or repairing a ball mark. Weekly visits are encouraged, but there are no strict rules.
"Snowbirds are encouraged to be a part of the team!"
The notice is signed by Mike Karpe, PGA Director of Golf, and Debbie McMullin. Anyone interested can contact McMullin at [email protected]. A thank-you and training cocktail hour is set for October 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. That date falls in the middle of the closure, while MountainView is closed. Fixing divots and ball marks matters most on The Preserve during those weeks.
The course has also recently hosted competitive golf. Wayne Clark, the Head Professional, won the Southern Arizona PGA Senior Match Play Championship at The Preserve, winning his matches 1 Up, 4 & 2, and 2 and 1.
The restaurant reopens on the same schedule
Dining at The Preserve also changed during the overseed. The Tuesday Par 5 light lunch, normally 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., was suspended September 15 through October 4. The September 21 golf update said Tuesday service would return October 6. The Food & Beverage update from September 28 replaces that date: "PAR 5 IS BACK OCT. 13TH WITH A NEW MENU!" Plan around October 13.
Other community dates fall inside the same three weeks.
| Date | Event | Detail |

Smoke & Spirits is on the patio at 66567 E Catalina Hills Dr. Desert Days is open to the public. The 5K runs on MountainView's community streets, and the afternoon festival on the MV Lawn has the Billy Shaw Jr. Band, a beer garden, vendors, a free car show, and a community market.
The weekly specials run all month too. The Golfer's Lunch Happy Hour takes $4 off all beer pitchers Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The new 3–5 p.m. happy hour takes $1 off all liquor, beer, and wine, including house pours, and $2 off bottles of wine, pitchers, and premium liquors. Date Night Thursdays run 4 to 8 p.m. The regular schedule is lunch Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. The HOA recommends reservations from September through April, and The Preserve takes them through OpenTable.
Decisions due before the courses reopen
Two golf decisions fall in the same window. 2027 passes went on sale October 1, and the Canyon Card is coming back. At a special Board Meeting the week before the update, unlimited passes got a new pricing choice. Holders can cap their water usage up front or pay $4 per round. The golf page lists these options:
- Annual: $5,000, or $4,600 plus $4 per round
- Afternoon Annual: $4,100, or $3,700 plus $4 per round
- Seasonal: $4,300, or $3,900 plus a per-round charge whose amount is missing from the posted notice
The posted notice doesn't explain why the water charge was added or how the cap works. Ask the golf shop before choosing. As a rough check, an Annual passholder who plays 100 rounds pays the same $5,000 under either option. Someone who plays fewer rounds pays less with the per-round option. New Unlimited Passholders get November and December 2026 at no extra charge.
The second decision is about conditioning. Fitness Fore Golf works on mobility, strength, and flexibility, and costs $199. Sessions meet at 1:00 p.m. on November 4, 11, and 18 and December 2 in the Rincon Room of the Mesquite Building, and sign-up is through ForeTees. Lessons are also available. Mike Karpe and Wayne Clark charge $80 for a 30–40 minute lesson or $320 for a series of five. Assistant Golf Professional Mason Hage charges $60 for a single lesson or $240 for five. The golf shops at both courses have FootJoy and Johnnie-O apparel at 35% off for everyone and 45% off for Annual Passholders, and in-stock golf bags at 25% off while supplies last.
These dates come from HOA pages updated September 21 and September 28. The October 5 reopening is still a scheduled date. The SaddleBrooke TWO golf page will post the confirmed status once it's known.
